Having a history of trauma, chronic stress, adversity or struggling w/ your mental health while simultaneously having to be a parent can be a herculean task on a good day.

Parents often don’t realize the way trauma & toxic stress insidiously creep into relationships w/ the kids causing the added (anti) bonus of anxiety & overwhelm. Whether you want to admit it or not, parents & caregivers are notorious for projecting their sh*t onto kids #realtalk - and, it’s ok!

Because w/out the awareness of it, how would anyone know better?

One of the biggest challenges w/ raising kids & having a personal history of trauma, chronic stress or adversity is we often model the old dynamic in our current relationship with our kids. It may look different than what we experienced, but most likely, a version of it is showing up.

Meaning as a parent or caregiver we don’t know where we end & they begin emotionally & energetically— this alone is a breeding ground for codependency & anxiety ridden exchanges.
