What is addiction really? Hint: it's not a disease or a choice!

Why what you’ve learned about addiction is BS… 💥

When we think of the word addiction in this culture, there are typically two competing theories:

1. Addicts have a disease with no cure
2. Addicts choose to be addicts

As a coach & clinical therapist we call bullsh*t on both accounts.

When we as a society cling to these theories with an unwavering grip, we witness and perpetuate endless suffering to a social and public health issue that often feels like a lost cause.

Addiction does not discriminate and it impacts the lives of people from all walks of life that in time end up losing sight of a life worth living as they are consumed by this cycle.

When we stop and are willing to take in a more objective view, one that is not is saturated in judgement and stigma, we can see that addiction is in fact an epidemic of disconnection and often merely a symptom of trauma... NOT a disease, NOT a choice.

The good news and what we've found in our work:

When you restore connection, integrate trauma and rewire your neurobiology, you can find and create healing in the darkest of places….

Addiction doesn’t need a cure. It simply needs an outlet for healing.
