Trauma sticks when we get stuck...and when it sticks, it's a lot more work in the long run to unravel it from your mind, body and brain.

So instead of bypassing the feelings or shoving them down to "get on with your day." Take a few minutes to feel.

Feeling can be as simple as slowing down to take a few slow deep breaths, in and out through the nose.  Bring your attention inward and notice:  sensations, feelings, agitations.  It may be helpful to close your eyes and/or place your hands on your heart like I do in the video.

Feeling is tuning in to what is going on for you without the story, without giving it meaning, simply noticing and staying present with your breath.

Gentle stretching like forward folds can be helpful to connect to your body.  A trauma response in stressful times can also look like feeling detached from your body, floating or not being "grounded."

The sigh breath, as outlined in the video, is one of the fastest ways to drop out of the sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight, stress, danger) into the parasympathetic nervous system (rest, relax, I'm safe).

The simple practice of slowing down your breath and stretching your body can help to allow stressful or painful experiences to be felt without overwhelm and to keep them from getting stuck.

Motivated by the heartbreak of recent events, we put together a free resource… an easy to implement simple guide to care for yourself and others when it matters most, yet often feels most difficult.

It’s called NAVIGATE: A Guide To Uncertain & Painful Times. Let it be your North Star for connection to self. ⭐️

It’s a beautiful pdf, with simple neuroscience backed tools you can use right now to start feeling and a few quotes to uplift your heart, mind & spirit.
